Position Summary:
The Emergency Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and maintaining various day-to-day activities associated with the EOC operations to ensure departmental preparedness while performing a variety of routine and complex clerical tasks related to the operation of the EOC department.

Employee is considered essential personnel and must report to work if required by their manager during any Emergency or Natural Disaster occurs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Operates and maintains a variety of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery programs and projects while working closely with the Director to carry out the EOC activities for the Parish.
Utilizes and regularly tests various notification and warning systems that allow for the dissemination of information internally and to the community at large.
Operates various EOC equipment and software systems needed to ensure Parish readiness in the case of an emergency.
Implements and maintains the emergency plans for the Parish in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
Gathers, evaluates, and interprets weather data reported through radars, local weather stations, and communications with the National Weather Services to provide accurate information to other departments/agencies to assist in ensuring preparedness during a weather event.
Regularly interacts and coordinates with the local major industrial facilities to ensure efficient plans for a coordinated response to emergencies while understanding their processes and responses.
Regular interacts and coordinates with various local, state and federal response partners to ensure awareness of initiatives and response plans and resources for the Parish.
Develop, plan, coordinate and participate in various Emergency Preparedness Exercises as required federal, state, and local requirements.
Maintains logs/records for all Parish responses, including accurate Sit rep of all emergency classifications.
Assists with the training of new employees.
Prepares and conducts presentations for the public regarding emergency operations, including hurricane presentations and tours of the EOC.
Responds to emergency situations due to inclement situations by re-establishing government operations, emergency operations, assisting with evacuations, and coordinating shelter activities as needed.
Assist with damage assessments during and after an event.
Must be on-call and available to prepare to emergency situations at any time.
Responds to public inquiries/complaints related to sewage issues, stray animals, water leaks, and the like.
Monitors Public Works assets through Telemetry.
Perform additional duties as needed.
Competencies:
Excellent communication skills via email, phone, in-person and virtual with both the public and internal staff.
Strong computer skills and software management with an ability to proficiently use Microsoft Suite, Excel, and PowerPoint and departmental specific software.
Knowledge of the objectives, policies and procedures of the Parish.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others as well as aid/provide customer service to the public.
Knowledge of principles associated with supervision and training with an ability to supervise staff in work tasks and functional duties.
Able to contribute positively as part of a team, helping with various tasks as required.
Exhibit professional dress and behavior.
Experience with use of basic office equipment.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work within tight deadlines, while maintaining disciplined focus on parish goals and measurable objectives.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to solve complex problems.
Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and/or confidential information.
Ability to operate a range of motor vehicles, including traditional automobiles, mobile communication units, Parish rapid assessment trailers and Polaris Rangers.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Response, Emergency Planning and/or Business Management required

Valid Driver’s License
HAM Radio
ICS NIMS Certification
HAZMAT Technician
Hurrevac HVX
Work Environment:
The primary duties of this position are performed indoors. As necessary, this position will work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
The position will spend most time indoors in an office setting sitting for extended periods, operating office equipment, and requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. The position will be required to work at field command posts in outdoor settings for extended periods of time in all weather conditions. This position requires minimal lifting and carrying of objects up to 25.
