Winter Storm Enzo Updates

Snow and ice accumulations in St. Charles Parish have created dangerous road conditions parishwide. Snow is beginning to thaw, but once temperatures dip below freezing tonight, the roads will ice over and create extremely dangerous driving conditions.

Residents are urged to not venture out unnecessarily so Public Works and DOTD crews can clear snow and ice from roadways. Excessive traffic inhibits their efforts and poses a danger to first responders who might be called to perform rescues.  

Below are the latest updates on operations in St. Charles Parish:

Offices and Programming

  • Government Buildings and the Courthouse will remain closed on Thursday, January 23.
  • Recreation programming is canceled on Thursday. Games on Friday and Saturday will occur as scheduled. Games from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday have been rescheduled. Check www.scpparksandrec.com for new schedules.
  • Prime Time Seniors programming is canceled for the rest of this week.
  • St. Charles Parish Council on Aging is closed on Thursday.
  • 29th Judicial District Court will reschedule all cases scheduled for Thursday.

Warming Shelter

  • The Warming Shelter at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center is now closed.

Garbage Collection

  • River Birch Renewable Energy has canceled garbage collection on Thursday, January 23. To make up for missed collection days, they will run the following schedule:
    • For Monday/Thursday routes, trash will be collected on Friday, January 24.
    • For Tuesday/Friday routes, trash will be collected on Saturday, January 25.
    • For Wednesday/Saturday routes, trash will be collected on Sunday, January 26.
  • Normal trash collection and routes will resume on Monday, January 27.

Road Closures

  • The Department of Public Works and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development are working with equipment on hand to clear snow and ice from major roads and emergency routes.
  • Interstate 10, I-310 (including The Hale Boggs Bridge), LA 3127 to I-310 Northbound, Des Allemands Bridge over US 90, and US 90 between Willowdale Blvd and Live Oak Blvd all remain closed.
