US Army Corps of Engineers Seeking Public Comments Regarding Permit for Future Des Allemands Floodgate

The New Orleans District of the US Army Corps of Engineers is currently seeking public comment until June 29, 2025, regarding the permit application for the planned Des Allemands Floodgate in Lac Des Allemands. The project’s purpose is to reduce storm surge in the Lac Des Allemands Basin and reduce flood risk in portions of six parishes, including the West Bank of St. Charles Parish.  

The Lafourche Basin Levee District is the permit applicant and administrator of the project. The proposed project would occur to the immediate southeast of US Highway 90 and the town of Des Allemands. Most of the floodgate construction will be water based.

The New Orleans District will receive written comments on the proposed work until June 29, 2025. Comments should be submitted electronically via the Regulatory Request System (RRS) at https://rrs.usace.army.mil/rrs or to Zach Steinkoenig at zachary.j.steinkoenig@usace.army.mil.
