The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter will host a Check the Chip Day event on Friday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 921 Deputy Jeff G. Watson Dr. in Luling. This event, held during hurricane season, aims to help residents ensure their pets are safe, secure, and ready in an emergency.

During the event, pet owners can have their cats or dogs scanned to check for a working microchip and receive guidance on checking and updating their pet’s registration information. Residents are encouraged to routinely check and update their pet’s microchip registration, as the effectiveness of a microchip depends on accurate and up-to-date contact information.

The shelter will provide microchipping services free of charge for pets that do not already have one. Residents must have proof of St. Charles Parish residency to receive these services.  Microchipping is a quick, safe, and permanent way to help lost pets return home. The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter encourages all local pet owners to take advantage of this opportunity to help ensure the safety and well-being of their animals.
