Parish President Jewell, Parish Council Members, and local elected officials invite the community to celebrate the start of work on Montz's first-ever permanent pump stations. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Montz Park, located at 100 Calcagno Street in Montz.
The pump stations will become a part of the East Bank West Shore Hurricane Protection Levee System and will provide long-overdue relief for more than 800 dwellings, 25 industrial buildings, an electrical power plant, a church, and a fire station. Once both stations are constructed, Montz will have 3.5 times its current pumping capacity with the interim hydraulic pump on the Prescott Canal.
The total investment for both stations is $32,362,820.00. The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority Board provided $10 million through an Intergovernmental Agreement for Montz No. 1. Both stations were designed by GIS Engineering, LLC, and will be constructed by the low-bidder, Sealevel Construction, Inc.
