Post Date:September 09, 2025 3:10 PM

St. Charles Parish Department of Parks and Recreation, alongside the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will host a volunteer workday on National Public Lands Day, Saturday, September 27 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Bonnet Carre Spillway, located at 101 Lower Guide Levee Road in Norco.

All are welcome to help clean up and plant trees in the Spillway’s recreation areas and celebrate the connection between people and the outdoors. Refreshments will be available under the pavilion during the event. Special thanks to our sponsors, Coastal Roots, providing trees for planting, and Valero, supplying refreshments for our volunteers.

Volunteers should meet at the recreation area at the Bonnet Carré Spillway Lower Guide Levee Side to be assigned cleaning locations. Please bring sunscreen, water, gloves, and closed-toed shoes. At the conclusion of the workday, all are invited to fish and participate in various outdoor recreation activities.

National Public Lands Day was established in 1994 and is held annually on the fourth Saturday in September. For more information on the volunteer workday, call Austin Leray with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at 985-764-7484.
