St. Charles Parish officials gathered Tuesday morning to celebrate the completion of the parish’s new levee bench project, which included the installation of 15 benches, with bike racks and trash receptacles along the levees in St. Charles Parish.
“These new levee benches are a small but meaningful enhancement for our community,” said Parish President Matthew Jewell. “They provide residents with more opportunities to pause, relax, and take in the natural beauty of our parish while enjoying our levee system.”
This project called for the installation of 15 new levee benches, with nine located on the East Bank and six on the West Bank. On the East Bank, benches were added at three sites in Montz, as well as one each in Norco, New Sarpy, and Destrehan, and three in St. Rose. The West Bank improvements include two benches in Ama, one in Luling, two in Hahnville, and one in Killona. These additions enhance and expand the existing levee seating at both the East Bank and West Bank Bridge Parks.
“The completion of this project marks another step forward in expanding recreational amenities across St. Charles Parish,” said Duane Foret, Director of Parks and Recreation. “These new levee benches, bike racks, and trash receptacles help make our levee system more comfortable, accessible, and welcoming for residents of all ages.”
Regency Consulting Group constructed the project after a $165,000 bid, fully funded by Parks and Recreation. Construction of the levee bench project spanned approximately seven months, with minor delays caused by changing river conditions. The levee benches are now complete and fully accessible to all residents throughout the parish.
