St. Charles Parish Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for Deputy Jeff G. Watson Drive Roadway Extension

Post Date:March 11, 2026 1:32 PM

Parish President Matthew Jewell and members of the St. Charles Parish Council gathered on March 11, 2026, to celebrate the completion of nearly $1.5 million in infrastructure additions between Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway and Ashton Plantation Boulevard in Luling.

“Enhancing connectivity and safety across our parish continues to be one of our top priorities,” said Parish President Matthew Jewell. “This roadway extension not only improves access between Ashton and Judge Edward Dufresne but also sets the stage for our forthcoming St. Charles Parish Dog Park, an addition that will provide another enjoyable recreational amenity for dog owners and their pets.”

This project extended the road off Deputy Jeff G. Watson Drive, formerly known as Rue La Cannes, by 1,270 feet and includes the installation of light poles and the addition of a parking lot for the future dog park. This road was renamed in honor of St. Charles Parish Deputy Jeff G. Watson, who died in the line of duty on August 4, 2013.

The Deputy Jeff G. Watson Dr. Roadway Extension was designed by Civil & Environmental Consulting Engineers, Danny J. Hebert, P.E., LLC, and contractors, Byron E. Talbot Contractor, INC. The total construction cost was $1,419,979.75 of parish funds.
