Parish President Matthew Jewell and the St. Charles Parish Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness are closely monitoring the heavy rain and potential tropical weather associated with Tropical Depression Two in the Gulf of America.

The National Weather Service predicts two to five inches of rain on Wednesday, July 22, in our area. The risk of excessive rainfall has decreased.

Sandbag locations are open for St. Charles Parish residents only at the West Bank Bridge Park (13825 River Rd., Luling), East Bank Bridge Park (13244 River Rd, Destrehan), and Badeaux Lane in Des Allemands. Residents should only take what they need and bring their own shovels and proof of St. Charles Parish residency. Residents should also check on elderly and homebound neighbors to ensure they are prepared and offer to bring sandbags to those who cannot get to the stations.

The Department of Public Works is preparing for this system by checking pump stations, clearing storm drains, and ensuring all pump stations are fully operational. Residents are urged to refrain from placing new debris at the curb and help reduce flooding by keeping your ditch clean and clear.

Garbage service is currently scheduled to run regular collection routes. The Des Allemands Boat Launch and Sellers Canal Sector Gate will close at noon on Tuesday, July 21.
