St. Charles Parish is preparing to begin the first bore beneath the CN Railroad as part of the ongoing Ormond CN Railway Culverts Project. Residents near the project area should be aware that this phase of construction will require crews to work continuously, including overnight hours, until each bore is complete. 

Work is set to begin for the first bore on Wednesday, August 26, at approximately 7:00 a.m.  

The project includes five total bores beneath the railroad. Each bore is expected to take approximately 24 hours to complete. Per CN Railroad requirements, once boring begins; work cannot stop until crews reach the receiving pit on the southern side of the railroad tracks.  

As a result, nearby residents may notice construction activity, equipment and increased noise outside of normal working hours. 

The $10.5 million Ormond CN Railway Culverts Project will install three 60-inch drainage pipes and two 54-inch drainage pipes beneath the CN Railroad. The improvements are designed to increase drainage capacity and improve the movement of stormwater from the south side of the railroad tracks to the north, addressing a longstanding drainage restriction in the Ormond area.
