The St. Charles Parish Public Works Department is responsible for repairs and improvements to local roads, either by in-house projects or contracted overlays, which are done on a yearly basis as part of the St. Charles Parish Road Maintenance Program.

This program is supported by funding from the state and revenues from a 5.94-mill property tax, as well as support from the general fund.

The parish replaces and/or repairs more than 1,000 signs on a yearly basis and maintains 213 miles of roadways, including concrete, asphalt and limestone.
